No ‘no go area’ in Okara | DPO says SHO to be suspended for not registering case
Thursday, October 23, 2008 14:59OKARA: There is not any ‘no go area’ in the district, including the areas of Okara Military Farms and the Kulyana Estate.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana said this while addressing an introductory meeting with journalists here Wednesday.
He further said the challans of 966 cases had been submitted to the courts in a week. The DPO said he would personally supervise the investigations of all the cases and the SHO who did not register the case of an incident would be suspended.
He said the murder case of Kulyana Estate would be disposed of within a week and the nominated culprits would be apprehended.
Kamyana said the apprehension of proclaimed offenders having criminal records was imperative to control crimes. The number of proclaimed offenders was going up, the crimes were increasing with the same pace, he observed.
He said he would personally observe the investigation of every case at the police stations of the district and the investigation officers would be responsible for producing progress report on the cases.
The DPO said he would welcome the positive criticism on the police by the media. He told the meeting that to cope with the deteriorating law and order situation in the city on account of the public protest against Wapda, he had posted Inspector Muhammad Akbar Gujjar, at the Revenue office Wapda, who would help the public visiting to get their bills corrected.
Protest against power outages, inflated bills: The unscheduled 16 to 18 hours loadshedding and inflated bills have forced the people to protest against them on the roads.
They took out a protest rally and marched though the city bazaars and chanted slogans against Wapda and the government. They said the protest would continue unless the undeclared loadshedding was stopped and their bills were corrected.
PTCL stops sending bills to consumers: The PTCL revenue office has stopped sending bills to its customers.
The customers are forced to get duplicate bills and deposit it with heavy fines.
It was complained here by various people, including Waris Haidari, Shahbaz Sajid, Haji Abdul Hameed. They said for the last three months the PTCL revenue office had not been sending telephone bills to the customers and the public had to get duplicate bills from the office and deposit them with heavy fines.
‘Power shortage falters economy’: An acute shortage of electricity has affected the economy of the country badly.
This concern was expressed by Chaudhry Muhammad Arshad, president Okara Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OCCI) and vice-president Ch Shafqat Rasool, after a meeting of the executive body of their organisation.
