Senate Standing Committee on Interior has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and cellphone companies to provide the complete data of the 11 million unregistered and un-verified SIMs within one week.

One of the key areas that will now command government focus is local content development and a simple mechanism for third party content development warehousing and provision over the telecom networks that needs to be put in place to fuel the demand for cellular services beyond basic voice and into advanced data and multimedia services. I would encourage both local and international telecom players to look into the possibility of tapping this opportunity in the Pakistani market.
